Karen Burniston Designer Challenge - January 2023 - Rubber Band Pop-Ups!

Hello and Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and I wish you all the very best for the New Year. It's the first Designer Challenge of 2023 and our theme this month is Rubber Band Pop-Ups! So we had to create a card using any of the fantastic dies that require a rubber band.

For my card I used the Bam Box Pop-Up and the cupcakes from the Cupcake Pop-Up die set to create this fun Cupcake Surprise card.

I started with an A2 size card in a dark chocolate brown cardstock. I found an old patterned paper pack that I got from Michaels years ago and decided to use that. It is called The Sweet Stack and all the papers inside have a candy/chocolate theme.

I used a pink paper with chocolate iced cupcakes as the background paper and added a trim in a fancy "chocolate" paper. I used the Border Blends - Trims die set to create a white edge along the chocolate border.

I then die cut two of the larger cupcake pieces from the Cupcake Pop-Up die set and made them chocolate frosted. I used Copic markers to create the frosting and add some dimension to the cupcake wrappers. I also colored the cherries on top with Copic markers. Then I added some glitter gel to the cupcakes and with a white Gelly Pen, added some sprinkles. I added Glossy Accents to the cherries to give them some shine.

I used the Circle - Crosshatch dies to create the lollipops on this card. I die cut them from heavy weight smooth white cardstock and with a pencil, traced a pattern for the lollipop. Then with Copic markers I colored them in with two different colors. Once done, I added glitter gel to one color and glossy accents to the other color. I cut a two thin strips of the same heavy weight cardstock and glued them together to create the stick the lollipop is attached to. Then I die cut a second circle in the same cardstock and added it to the back to give it some support.

I used Lawn Fawn How you Bean shaker add-on and die cut out jelly beans to add around the cupcakes. I added glossy accents to them to give them some shine.

I die cut the Happy Birthday sentiment from the from red cardstock and red glitter cardstock using the Happy Birthday die and glued them together to give the sentiment some strength.

I die cut the Bam Boxes from heavy weight smooth white cardstock and added them where I wanted the cupcakes to pop-up, making sure I left enough room to close the card with the cupcakes flat.

For the front of the card, I wanted to continue the same theme so I used the same patterned paper and added the smaller cupcake from the Cupcake Pop-Up and added another lollipop and some jelly beans.

I cut a small rectangle from smooth white cardstock using the Short Rectangles - Crosshatch and stamped the sentiment using MFT Sugar-Coated Sentiments and black ink.

What a fun and delicious surprise when the recipient opens the card and two cupcakes pop-up at them!

See the video below for the Pop-Up in action! As always, thank you so much for stopping by and Happy Crafting!
